Move is imminent
Filed Under uncategorized | 6 Comments
Well, the house move is imminent, we sign papers on Wednesday and move on Thursday. I am off all week packing boxes and stuffing them in storage lockers. Manager said we could use them as long as we lock them I have six so far full of boxes. Where does all this stuff come from?
we are moving around the corner, moving from a two-story townhouse to a ground level place. We will have a front lawn and everything inside is brand new.
I keep taking breaks as moving boxes in the sweltering weather is doing me in. Although the below ground storage area is lovely and cool.
While in the storage area I found out where the manager takes his lunch breaks. He came down and went into the large room that is usually locked down below the building where storage is located. It has a tv and pool table down there and he likes to go there so he isn’t bothered.
I am looking forward to getting into the new place and getting everything sorted out, we have been buying new furniture so everything should tie-in and look coordinated.

Memory work
Filed Under uncategorized | Leave a Comment
I need better memory and I am not talking about computer memory either. Currently reading and practicing my memory work for my mentalism stuff I am interested in.
Working on mnemonics so I can do stuff like memorize a deck of playing cards and call off the numbers as fast as possible.
Harry Lorayne has a great sets of tools to help increase your memory so I plan on getting some of his stuff. He can do a show where he is introduced to 300 or so audience members and later in his show he can identify them all by their names. Pretty impressive and I find it daunting having to memorize 52 cards!

Gifts for the better half

I’ve been searching the Shirley of Hollywood site as one does er, um well. I suggested to Carolyn that I wanted to buy her something and after some thought she directed me to the above site to check out the lingerie. Dang I love that woman!
I was looking at the school girl costumes, but I don’t think the wife would appreciate those and I have to admit they don’t do as much for me as some of the other items.
Maybe a French maid. He he decisions decisions, this might take a while. Maybe I’ll get something for me too (from the men’s section!)

The most annoying sounds
Filed Under uncategorized | 4 Comments
I find a swimming pool full of kids screaming “Marco Polo!” annoying as all get out, even after Carolyn described how the game is played.
But I have just realized an even more annoying sound, the endless loop of muzak played by an ice cream truck. I understand the noise is to attract the customers, to let them know the ice cream man is in the area.
I would just prefer that they chose some better jingles. The Saints Go Marching In, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and some Christmas tune have been playing endlessly as the truck sat on the corner.
Something else I noticed about these trucks too, they are all small Mini-vans like Dodge Caravans with highly colored product pictures slathered all over the sides. In the UK the trucks are dedicated ice cream trucks with the serving hatch and customization.
I guess it is budget related, a one-man operation once he has product would find it cheaper to get a mini-van than a truck especially made for ice cream. Maybe only the big operations have such trucks. I have never seen any over here though.
Mmm now I have an urge for ice cream.

Happy fiftieth birthday
Filed Under uncategorized | 4 Comments
One of my supervisors recently celebrated her 50th birthday. People who have reached their 30th and 40th birthdays have had tombstone and “Over the Hill” products everywhere so she was worried.
We reassured her and then when she left for the day we decorated her office with tons of balloons, black ribbons, “Over the Hill” stuff everywhere and all sorts of images related to getting on a bit LOL.
We told her not to think of reaching fifty years of age but that she reached half a century!
The following day she took all the decorations well and we didn’t go as over the topa s she was expecting.
When our manager brought birthday cards for us to sign for our supervisor she also handed us a card for our department head, “the boss of bosses”.
The card had “Thinking of You” on the front, and people had signed it with stuff like “Thinking of you at this time.”
Just before writing “Best wishes hope you have a great day,” I thought it didn’t seem like a birthday card so asked what it was for.
“Her Mom died recently,” I am glad I asked! Sending your big boss a card giving her best wishes and hoping she had a great day on the event of her mother’s passing wouldn’t have been conducive to good promotion prospects!

Promotional doodads
Filed Under uncategorized | 4 Comments
As I work on my mentalism act, been looking at promotional products, I got business cards and hoping to get some other stuff eventually if everything takes off.
Daughter’s friend is interested in the mind-reading stuff and comes around so I can show her stuff and read her mind.
I am practicing and working on the stagecraft and presentation, looking forward to one day performing for people I don’t know. It is daunting but the thrill of entertaining and mystifying people is great.

Yet more construction
Filed Under on the street | 1 Comment
It seems of late that you can’t go anywhere in downtown Seattle with running into construction of some sort. Hotels, and hotels with condominiums, condo hotels, are springing up everywhere.
Bus routes are forever being re-routed to go around the work, there are plans afoot to replace the aging viaduct with either another over the street roadway or a tunnel. When that starts it will be hell getting through down town.
At this rate I’ll have to get up even earlier to get to work on time!

Packing up the house
Filed Under wife | 2 Comments
As we pack more boxes and move them to the storage lockers while we wait for the new place to get finished, I am surprised how much stuff we have stashed away in closets and on shelves.
I have books in every nook and cranny and Carolyn has tons of jewelry boxes that contain rings, earrings, gold chains and all manner of trinkets. I am surprised she can find any piece of jewelry what with so many boxes to hunt through.
We have a few unopened boxes from several moves ago! Time to throw some stuff out methinks.
Next week we should be moved and in our new place and I am looking forward to getting it set-up and how we want it. The office will be a lot more efficient and spacious than what we have now.
