BBC News Friday: WWII bag returned to family of soldier

A cool story from the BBC news site, a tourist guide in Egypt found an old WWII satchel, he traveled to England after finding the family of the soldier who owned the bag. He returned the bag to the family and it contained some personal letters and effects.

I like cool stories like this with long forgotten items finding their way back to their owners. Great for the guide to go to those lengths to return the bag also.

BBC News Friday: An Argentinian 16 year old girl just gave birth to triplets, for the second time! Prior to two sets of triplets she had a baby when she was 14.

Supported by her grandmother this young mother of seven is to ask the government again for further assistance, this has people up in arms and they suggest someone should explain contraception to this girl.

Nothing is mentioned of the father.

A man in the UK was found in his apartment with the dead body of his room mate., neighbors complained about the smell. Apparently the room mate who was in his 70’s died about five years sitting on the couch in the living room. The man also in his 70’s suffers from mental illness and obviously either didn’t notice hi room mate was dead or just didn’t want to be alone.

Sad that he spent five years with a dead body and no one had visited him or noticed the other guy had not been around.

An article on the BBC News site, in the Irish Republic they are set to lower the condom tax. Apparently pressure from safe sex and crisis pregnancy groups has caused this lowering of the tax on non-oral contraceptives. In Ireland the condoms are more expensive than most other places in Europe.

They are trying to get the tax removed completely as they don’t consider them a luxury item! I’ll say they aren’t, pricing them too high and not having them available free on the health service like the rest of Great Britain just encourages people to not bother.

I wonder what the Pope has to say on the matter, he’d rather they didn’t sell them at all!

A bear that died at Edinburgh Zoo in 1963 is hopefully to be honored as a soldier. Polish solders during WWII came across a bear in Iran, they befriended the young bear and adopted him as their regimental mascot. To be able to take the bear with them it got enlisted and was given a rank. The bear was used for carrying supplies and apparently was friendly. He also liked a cigarette and a beer like any good soldier.

When the regiment went to a base in Scotland the bear ended up i the zoo there where he lived out the rest of his life.

Definitely a cool story and I hope the bear gets honored.

BBC News had an article, a series of photos taken of wonderful scenes made with foodstuffs found in the kitchen. Very creative and imaginative, I wonder how edible the food stuff is after the photo shoots. When photographers shoot food sometimes they are sprayed with various liquids to give them a sheen and a make them look more desirable.

Pretty cool stuff, BBC News food pictures link

A story I have seen on various news sites, a couple in England had their wedding annulled recently. Shortly after getting married they discovered they were actually brother and sister. Apparently they were twins separated at birth and had no idea they were related, kinda sucks.
